Future president of the Union Cognac Saint-Jean-d’Angély, Jean-Charles Vicard delivers his roadmap for next season.
Former player of Brive, La Rochelle and Bourgoin, I learned from this sport that nothing is ever acquired. Leaving Cognac, which was a conquered ground for me, and finding myself polishing the Corrèze black and white bench by scrapping in training to try to glean playing time, these are the values that I want to make young people sweat, to make them knowing that nothing is impossible. CEO of a family cooperage with many twists and turns that have contributed to my strong personal enrichment and brought me a certain form of wisdom in decision-making, I still have this little grain of risk-taking madness. The company is now on track, the structure is sound, and the men in place. So why not…
Taking over the UCS is yet another fight for the needy that I am, a new challenge, sporting this time, and the ambition to make Cognac shine again in the world of Ovalie! Federate the territory, partners, patrons and supporters, by putting the value of work back on the field, choosing the right people in the right places, and getting back to winning matches with a staff and players who will stick to my identity, in order to perform and not be content to vegetate at a level that should not be ours in the short term. This is my ambition. I am lucky to be in the age group of those with whom I have played in the past, those who have now become coaches, players’ agents and who are curious to see me at work and who I rely on to lend me a hand!
Structuring this club, the training of young people, so that the bases are solid and healthy, and that it can then be perpetuated for those who will succeed me, that is my ambition. And above all I wish to remain humble, not to cut corners. This is the recipe that I want to apply so that everyone adheres to this sports project which is starting to bubble up in the Cognac vineyards. Cognac is a strong name, the name of a city, but above all the name of a product known throughout the world, this project must therefore be the primary reason for all players in the Cognac sector without exception, small or large mobilize, for their city, for this sport, and its values conveyed…
So I can’t wait to be at the beginning of July to see the group work, prepare physically, sweat, and create this famous cohesion that you’re going to find in the pain of hard training…
Then, afterwards, I can’t wait to be on September 3, for the first National 2 championship match. With a sports park that will be refreshed, a citadel that will have to become impregnable, an audience that will return to the stadium, and who will like to come back for each game, because this team will have a lot of fun…
