Sunday May 14, 2023, Laurent Vivier completed its first “Courir en Baie” half-marathon in Mont Saint Michel, and on May 24, he will start his first marathon in Royan.
At 62, the director of the EHPAD des Andaines wanted to take up these challenges to finance the activities within his establishment.
A sportsman at heart
Originally from Saint-Martin-de-Landelles in the Manche department, Laurent Vivier has worked in the hospital environment for 42 years.
Since 2008, he has been managing the EHPAD L’Orée des bois in La Chapelle-d’Andaine and the Résidence de la Vée in Couterne (which became the EHPAD des Andaines in 2015) and those in Barenton and Le Teilleul for 5 years, “where I am assisted by a deputy director,” he insists.
Despite a professional career that takes him a long time, the native of Manchois has always played sports. “Until 2000, I practiced table tennis in competition, then I switched to cycling in cycle tourism, he confides. For the past three years, I have also taken up running, on my own. I am preparing for the duathlon: running, cycling, running”.

Loving challenges, Laurent Vivier decided several months ago to run the half-marathon at Mont-Saint-Michel and a marathon, a fortnight later, in Royan.
I trained for eighteen weeks at a rate of 60 to 80 km per week, notably taking the green route.
“I establish my own training programs, including dietetics. I’m aiming for 1h55 for the half-marathon and 4h for the marathon” explains the director who makes his own, the quote from Emile Zatopek, a Czechoslovakian athlete specializing in distance races, who said “If you want to run, run a kilometer . If you want to change your life, run a marathon.”
Over the course of his training, the idea also came to him to open an online pot on Helloasso for the benefit of the CLAPA association (Leisure and Animation Committee for the Elderly) which finances outings for residents in organizing, among other things, a lotto.
“The establishment devotes a small part of its budget to activities for residents, with the presence of two facilitators. Because, in the same way as accommodation, care, meals, entertainment contributes to their well-being”. Thus, after Cancale and Ouistreham in previous years, from June 12 to 16, a dozen residents will go on a stay at Bois du Thay in Mayenne with their supervisors. They will visit Jublains, the Jardin des Renaudies.

Sunday, May 14, Laurent Vivier took the start of the half-marathon of the bay of Mont Saint Michel, which totaled 912 participants. For a first, he achieved the performance of completing the test in 1 h 45′, placing himself at 359e place.
Now it’s time for training for the Côte de Beauté marathon in Royan on Saturday 27 May.
The donations collected online will finance indoor boules games, but also various outings, for the EHPAD des Andaines.
