On Saturday May 27, at the Charles-Cros gymnasium, the Carcassonne ABC (boxing and culture association) is organizing its interregional boxing gala. An evening that will see four boxers from the city compete against a high-level selection from Reunion.
Last November, after years without fighting at home to the applause of their families and friends, the ABC (boxing and culture association) Carcassonnaise returned to events by organizing the finals of the Occitanie championship at the Charles-Cros gymnasium. Six months later, the club repeats the experience. Next Saturday, May 27, in this same gymnasium, the ABC is organizing a new interregional meeting. The men of Mohamed Bouhenia – the club’s trainer – will face a selection of boxers from Reunion. Eight fights are on the program for this gala.
Three French champions
“The Occitania championship went very well. It made us want to organize a home meeting again. It’s also to get our students who have a very good level to fight. They no longer have adversary in the region. I am thinking in particular of Enzo Borrel, vice-champion of France in 2022 and n°2 at the last Olympic pre-selection tournament… Bringing in a Reunion team made up of three French champions will allow them to rub shoulders with boxers of their level”motivates the ABC Carcassonnaise coach.
At the base, they were five boxers from the ABC to have to participate in the meeting. Unfortunately, one of them got hurt. Thus, it is the vice-champion of France 2022 Enzo Borrel (-51kg) and Wassim Amali (-92kg) who will represent the Carcassonne selection. At their side, will also fight (outside selection) Enzo Gimenez (-60kg), Nassim Mimouni (-60kg) and Adam Bouhenia (-75kg).
“We must honor”
On May 27, Enzo Borrel will face Julien Samourgonpoule, the French champion in his category (-54kg). As for Wassim Amali, he will fight against Médéric Souton (-92kg). Both say to each other “ready to win”. “The competitions in which I took part took place mainly outside of Carcassonne. It’s nice to fight at home. There will be our Carcassonne public, our families, our friends, our colleagues. We have to be proud”, blows the vice-champion of France 2022. If as usual, the men of Mohamed Bouhenia train three times a week, the gala approaching, the training has become daily. For several hours a day…
On D-Day, the weigh-in is scheduled for 5 p.m. for a start of the scheduled fights at 7 p.m. With, hopefully, a favorable outcome for the Carcassonne selection…
