The four members of the Horter family, Lionel, Franck, Marie-Octavie, their mother, and Marjorie, Lionel’s wife, were presented on Monday, June 5, at 3 p.m. before the Public Prosecutor of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Mulhouse, who notified them of their dismissal. The hearing will be held on November 16 at the city court. The Public Prosecutor’s Office dismisses them on suspicion of crimes of breach of trust, abuse of corporate assets and concealment. Franck Horter was served with a judicial review preventing him from exercising the functions of president of Mulhouse Olympic swimming (MON) and of the private structure linked to the local club, the MON Club, historically managed by the Horter family.
It is one of the most famous names in French swimming that will have to do with justice. Lionel Horter is the former coach of Roxana Maracineanu, ex-Minister of Sports and world swimming champion, but also of Amaury Leveaux, Laure Manaudou and more recently Yannick Agnel.
An anonymous denunciation at the origin of the investigation
This dismissal is the result of an investigation by the Mulhouse judicial police launched in 2020, following an anonymous denunciation, concerning the management of Mulhouse Olympique Natation, the MON and the MON Club.
The Mulhouse prosecutor’s office has not yet specified the exact charges against the Horters and what the investigators have been able to uncover. However, the direct referral following a police investigation, without going through a judicial inquiry conducted by an investigating judge, means that the prosecution considers that it has sufficiently solid facts to obtain a conviction.
